Who is in for a drink? What about a Moscow Mule? Here you gonna find my newest recipe of one of the most talked about cocktails/drinks of the season – and I can assure you it’s not (only) because originally comes in a beautiful copper mug. I hope you like the following recipe!
My personal history with this drink is a very intense one. Born and raised in good old Austria one hardly gets to taste something like Ginger Beer and even (Ginger) Ale and it isn’t that easy find either – so globalization isn’t doing it’s job, is it? (just kidding) So I happened to have my first mug of Moscow Mule in the lonely wilderness of British Columbia, while my heliskiing adventure in March 2015. It had been a very special night at the lodge as there were the Norther Lights dancing above our heads all night long and we spent most of the time outside. After taking pictures for almost 1 hours straight – having problems with my camera’s adjustments to properly catch the lights – I felt a little chilled but Anna, the barkeeper, told me that there is something better than tea for that. And of course she poured me a Moscow Mule. At first I wasn’t sure if I gonna like this drink, especially as I didn’t know ginger beer back then and thought it would last like beer and vodka – which would be awful. But she made me drink it and it was the best drink I’ve ever had. Plus, because of the ginger my chill vanished into the night like the Northern Lights. I loved the mix of ice, ginger and mint so much, that I instantly took down the recipe.
Just a few days ago I found ginger beer at a local supermarket just around the corner of my flat in Vienna, which is crazy because it is even hard to get your hands one a better tonic than Schweppes around here! So I just couldn’t resist and tried to mix one myself – and of course I have to share it with you now.
As it is as simple as Gin Tonic but with a special twist I’m sure you gonna love it. For me the Moscow Mule is already the best cocktail ever. An easy and straight forward drink without frills – so let’s do this!
Ingrediens (for one mug): 1/2 lime | 4 cl Vodka | 250 ml ginger beer | mint leaves | club soda (optional) | ice cubes
Step by Step:
- squeeze half a lime into a traditional Moscow Mule copper mug and add it with the vodka to the ice cubes in a
- add a few mint leaves and another slice of lime to the mug
- then finally fill up the mug with cold ginger beer
- optional: add a little soda to lighten it up which will make it the perfect aperitif
