Lately I always end up at old palaces transformed into hotels. Just like in my last hotel review on the Savoia Excelsior Palace the beautiful Barceló Brno Palace hotel occupies an historical palace in the city center of Brno. From the outside the hotel looks breathtakingly beautiful but what about the inside? In this hotel review I gonna tell you all about it and give you an honest review on this hotel in Czechs second biggest city.
Okay, regarding location the Barceló Brno Palace is nearly unbeatable. Situated between the Špilberk Castle and the beautiful S. Peter and Paul Cathedral it has the perfect position for exploring the city as all the major sight are just a view minutes from the hotel’s door steps. Moreover there are many cafés, bars and restaurants just around the corner e.g. in Dominikánská and around Brno-Město (the place in front of the new town hall). Right there you will also find my favorite café in Brno which I already told you about in my 7 things to do in Brno post. So when it comes to location this hotel is perfect in every way.
Allover the service was really good. As we only stayed there for one night I can’t comment on all the various aspects but from what I’ve seen everything was fine. The receptionist was friendly and is happy to help with everything one needs. The only thing that I wasn’t so happy about was that the cleaning service had forgotten to clean the shower properly, while the rest of the room and bathroom was spick and span. Sadly this is an minus to an overall really good hotel.
As we only stayed there for one night and we had already heard from some nice places to have breakfast we didn’t pick the breakfast option for our stay at the Barceló Brno Palace. So I can’t tell anything about the quality of the food but as one of Brno’s finest restaurants the Palazzo is situated in the hotel as well I assume the breakfast is equally great. Moreover nearly all comments on Booking.com confirm my assumptions so I was a little sad that we haven’t opted for the room including breakfast. But the next time we’ll definitely do!
We had a Deluxe Double room and it was much bigger than I expected. There was plenty of room despite the king size bed which definitely is the center piece of the room. Even the bathroom was quite big, which I accredit the building stock of the palace for. With a bathtub and a shower the room was slightly over-equipped and fun fact: the shower was so high tech and difficult to master that I gave up and used the bathtub instead 🙂 The ground rule “Form follows function” definitely wasn’t high on the priority list of the designer as well as the interior planner. Generally the room was decorated in rather dark colors and heavy furniture, which I personally don’t like that much as I always go for light colors when it comes to interior. But all over the room was nicely furnished and kept all its promises.
We had landed a great deal when we booked our Room at the Barceló Brno Palace as we planned this trip a few weeks in advance. Moreover we did some serious price check of all the hotels in Brno and this one turned out to be the winner. Our Deluxe Double Room exclusive Breakfast had been only 60€ per night and room, but as I just saw on the hotel’s homepage the same room would normally be available for 112€ and with breakfast for 130€ for two persons. So I would consider this hotel a value for many option if one cares for a nice, clean and modern hotel with a great location and friendly staff. But it is always good to compare the prices on different travel websites. It is definitely worth it!
All in all, I would recommend the Barceló Brno Palace to anyone visiting this city – no matter it it’s for business or pleasure – you will always be enjoying your stay!
