Summer is almost over and soon everyone of us will be back to school and college. For me it will be a first day again as I’ll start with my master studies in economics in October and I’m super excited about it. And even though I already had many first days there is always something overwhelming about that day. After two months of endless summer spent abroad or at home it is time to find back into a daily routine and seeing the same people again. What has always been very important to me on this special occasion was a great new outfit. This might sound girlish – which it is – but new cloths can give you the last kick of self confidence that can make a difference.
I remember that whenever a new school year started my mother took me and my sister shopping for new cloths. We loved it and came home with a whole new wardrobe of the most stylish dresses, shirts and pants. This hasn’t changed for me since that. Only recently I went shopping with my mom and sister while we were in Vancouver, Canada, and shopped for a whole new outfit which I can wear on my first day of my master studies. So what are the essentials of a first day outfit this year?
Simplicity is key as always – but especially the post on basics by Janine from JolieJanine on the Zalando ADVIZE site inspired me once more. We should trust in wardrobe stables rather than in super trendy dresses and jackets. Basics are eternal 🙂 . So check out my list for perfect back to school outfits.
Outerwear: blazer, bomber and raincoat
These parkas, blazers and bomber jackets are what make your Back to School wardrobe simply to die for. Easy to style and for every weather situation. While bomber and blazer are more for the indian summer – that will hopefully sweeten up Autumn – a raincoat or parka is essential when the days aren’t so sunny. I have a yellow raincoat myself already and I love it deeply – wearing it whenever I can – because suddenly rain isn’t so bad anyway 🙂 .
Top: basic long sleeve and camisole
I love to keep it simple and sweet. While some intent to wear eye-catching tops rather than wow-jackets I always go for the modest look regarding shirts and blouses. That’s why on my Back to School – Shopping lists are stripped basics as well as unicolored camisoles. I love to pair them with cozy cardigans or simply wear then beneath a blazer.
Bottom: culotte, skinny jeans and denim skirt
Currently I’m on team culotte again as I found the perfect one in a cute store in Vancouver, just before we headed to the airport. But the perfect first day wardrobe consists of more than just a nice culotte. And what should never be missing in any wardrobe? Of course, skinny jeans and a denim skirt! Easy to style and wear with everything for those days when you don’t know what to wear.
Shoes: pointy flats and comfy sneakers
Out of very painful experience I can tell you that high heels aren’t first day material. Honestly, who wants to start the new semester with hurting feet? Rather go for pointy flats in all shapes. Wether ballerinas, moccasins or even lights boots – they are all perfect for early Autumn. And never forget to opt for sneakers too – comfy and chic at once!
With my Fjälraven Backpack I’m perfectly equipped for everything. It fits my laptop, notebooks and everything I need for a day at the library. And as I have problems with my back it’s the best way to cary a lot of heavy stuff. Currently I’m thinking about getting myself one of these clean gray Herschel backpacks – what do you think about them? I know they are currently all over the place – but they are damn cool, though.
What is on your shopping list for the upcoming semester? Hope to hear your thoughts .
