Before the next adventure starts in five days I want to take you back to the Algarve where I spent the second part of my family holiday. After 3 days in Porto we headed South for another beautiful week of sunbathing surrounded by the most beautiful beach landscape.
It has been my first time at the Algarve and it definitely kept it’s promises of having the most beautiful beaches in Portugal – maybe even in Europe. We stayed in a beautiful resort with a private beach situated in one of the countless bays surrounded by high sandstone cliffs. The place is pure magic.
Most of our time we spent relaxing in the sun and from time to time we went for a little swim in the Atlantic ocean, which was so cold (18°C to be exact) that one needed another half an hour in the sun to feel warm again. It was crazy but after a few days we even started to enjoy the cold. Because the crystal clear water and the fact that we saw Dolphins (!) from our breakfast table was all worth the few seconds of pain when Hanni and I jumped into the waves.
Even though we spent most of our time in the resort we also wanted to see other places of this beautiful region and decided to have dinner somewhere in Lagos, which is famous for it’s surf culture. With high expectations we drove west and reached the city after 40 minutes. It’s been a nice evening in general but all my expectations have been destroyed the second I got out of the car. To be honest, if you are looking for a lovely romantic old town (as we hoped to find) Lagos isn’t the place to be. It lost its charm to tourist traps and drunk holiday maker. And I make a bet that there wasn’t a single local in the whole city… which is definitely the most significant sign, isn’t it?
Back in our resort we were so happy that we booked a hotel far off from the next city so we could enjoy the real beauty of the Algarve like during morning runs on top of the cliffs, a beautiful sunset watched from the hotel pool and relaxing at the most stunning beach I’ve ever seen.
Have you ever been to the Algarve? If yes, what is your impression?
